RECREATION GROUNDS

The Parish Council own and manage the following recreation areas : HATCH GRANGE. off Chapel Road 27 acres of woods and meadows in a parkland setting. Very popular children’s play area. A leaflet ‘Hatch Grange Woods and Meadows’ prepared by The Friends of Hatch Grange, West End Parish Council and Eastleigh Borough Council’s Itchen Hamble Countryside Project is available from the Parish Office (023 80 462371). This leaflet has been prepared to introduce you to the delights of this haven for wildlife.

MOORGREEN ROAD, West End Approximately 3 acres of recreation land – home of the Youthouse (West End Youth Club).

Other facilities include children’s play area, tennis and basketball courts, 5-a-side football posts/pitch.

BARNSLAND, West End Approximately 4 acres of recreation land. Facilities include 5-a-side football posts/pitch, youth seating and children’s swings.

PARISH CENTRE

Facilities provided by the parish centreMain Hall - with kitchen and bar area for wedding receptions, parties etc.

Sports Hall - 1 badminton court, indoor bowls facilities

Club Room - Suitable for meetings up to 15 people.

Committiee Room - Suitable for meetings up to 12 people.

TOWNHILL FARM COMMUNITY CENTRE  

Wessex Way, off Townhill Way, West End, SO18 3RA.

The centre is situated behind the shops in Townhill Way and offers a Main Hall with adjacent kitchen and also a Coffee Lounge which are available for hiring either on a regular or casual basis. A Children's Centre has been set up which is currently working from here. Building works will commence soon which will provide facilities for the centre to become fully operational.  The Centre Co-ordinator is Julie Stallard and she can be contacted on 07515084124.  

YOUTH FACILITY

Moorgreen Road, West End
The Youth Facility is currently used by little gems pre-school and Jimmy's After School Club during the day and by a local guide group and The Youthouse - West End Parish Councils Youth Club

FIRE STATION

Orchards way, West End

Committee Room - Situated on first floor, NO disabled access. Suitable for meetings.

Ground floor - West End Museum - open saturdays 10.00am - 4.00pm and manned by volunteers of the West End Local History Society. For more information visit their website or email them westendlhs@aol.com

Football facilities in West End

There are 2 full sized football pitches suitable for senior and junior teams with changing facilities off Atlantic Park View, Townhill Way. Facilities available include seperate changing rooms for teams and referees/Officials, showers and community room, small kitchen and toilets. These are used for league matches and can only be booked through the Parish Council.

There are 5-a-side football posts at Moorgreen Recreation Ground and Barnsland Recreation Ground for informal play. Please note that there is no access to the playing felds from the A27 into Cutbush lane.

Charges for 2008/09 season : Seniors £48.00 per match; Youths £24.00 per match: Juniors £l6.00 per match

Tennis and Basketball facilities

Available at Moorgreen Recreation Ground. The tennis courts can be booked by telephoning 023 8036049

Culture in West End

West End Local History Society was formed in 1996 and exists to provide a focus for those interested in the very varied local history of West End. It all started back in 1996 with the closure of the Fire Station in West End - the Parish Council purchased the building and the History Society set up its museum in what is now affectionately known as ‘The Old Fire Station’. The Society meets once a month with guest speakers covering many topics and the Museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. every Saturday.

BURlAL GROUND West End Road

The Parish Council manage the Burial Ground on behalf of St. lames Church. It is now closed to new burials and/or cremations. These now take place at Quob Lane Cemetery.

QUOB LANE CEMETERY Quob Lane, West End

The Cemetery and Memorial Gardens are situated in Quob Lane (just before you go over the motorway bridge travelling from Chapel Road)

WEST END ALLOTMENTS

West End Parish Council manages the allotment site in Moorgreen Road, West End and will let allotment plots on an annual basis. An agreement is signed by the Parish Council and the tenant which outlines the terms and conditions for the tenant.

The annual charge per plot from lst April 2008 - 3lst March 2009 is £26.OO.

The West End Garden & Allotment Association

An organisation run by Allotment Holders and West End Gardeners. They are responsible for the shop at the allotment site which offers seeds, etc. at a very competitive rate to members.
